Service Opportunity

Did you know that Oklahoma ranks 4th in the US in the number of hungry families?  Did you know that one in five children in Eastern Oklahoma are in danger of going to bed each night hungry?  Organizations like Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma are helping to combat this hunger crisis in our state.

You may have read in a Tulsa World article (June 20th issue) that the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma recently received a 60 semi-truck shipment of food made possible by a federal grant.  The Food Bank currently needs volunteers to help box the food into 58,000 boxes.  These boxes will provide food to 58,000 hungry families in a 24 county region in Eastern Oklahoma.  If the food is not distributed by September 30, the Food Bank will have to pay for the transportation costs that are now covered by the grant.

This would be a great opportunity for your Journey Group to go and serve this summer.  If you, your family, or a group you are a part of would like to help meet this challenge at the Food Bank, call John Sanders at 585-2800, ext. 145, or e-mail jsanders@cfbeo.org to get more information on when you can volunteer.  Volunteer opportunities are available Monday through Saturday for people 12 years and older.

AWANA Program to Restart at Sapulpa Campus

The AWANA program will restart in the fall at the Sapulpa Campus. This program will serve as an outreach to the Sapulpa community.  We are looking for volunteers who would like to serve in this ministry.  If you are interested, or if you would like more information, please contact Donna Myers or Molly Hoffman.

Men’s Ministry to Work With Chapel Creation Coalition

“…I was in prison and you came to visit me.”

The Dick Conner Correctional Center in Hominy, OK, does not have a worship center or adequate classroom space for faith-based rehabilitation programs. Many volunteers are available to teach classes but there are not enough classrooms. The Center wants to offer classes teaching positive behavior roles, anger management, biblical definitions of manhood, responsible living and spiritual healing, and numerous others; as well as providing a space for the men to worship.

In the Fall of 2010, the Men’s Ministry of Cedar Ridge Christian Church will help the Chapel Creation Coalition build a chapel in the Dick Conner Correctional Center in Hominy, OK. We are inviting all CRCC men and women to the next Dick Conner Chapel Project meeting, April 22 at 7:00 p.m. at God’s Shining Light Church, 9897 E. 11th St., Tulsa, 74128.

The evening will begin with a light supper at 6:00 followed by the business meeting at 7:00. For more information, contact Craig Fisher.

Please drop off donated items in the kitchen hallway, BA Campus, or contact Nancy Adams.
