30 Days of Prayer for the Muslim World

August 11 – September 9, 2010

The 30 Days Muslim Prayer Focus calls Christians to make a deliberate effort to learn about, pray for, and reach out to Muslim neighbors…across the street and around the world. The 30 Days Muslim Prayer Guide is an effective tool to help Christians be more prayerful and Christ-like.  The prayer guide contains daily readings that focus on various topics, people groups, and geographical areas of the Islamic world, followed by practical prayer points.  It also features informative background articles and resources for further study and involvement.

As Christians, we long for all the world’s people to have an opportunity to understand the grace of God through Jesus Christ. To this end we inform ourselves, pray for, and support respectful opportunities to make that grace also known among Muslims.

Copies of the 2010 edition of the 30 Days Muslim Prayer Guide are currently available at the Welcome Center and bulletin tables. Please pick up your copy and join the largest ongoing international call to Christians to pray for the Muslim world.

Bible College Tuition Assistance Offering August 1

For the past several years, the membership of Cedar Ridge has shared in supporting our young people who have elected to seek Bible college education and training. Our Bible College Tuition Assistance program benefits those students who are seeking full time Christian service.

Each semester, eligible students receive a pre-determined amount from the Bible College Tuition Assistance Fund based on the number of credit hours they have successfully completed. The fund is replenished by a special offering taken once each year. To date, five of our young people have applied for assistance for the 2010 Fall semester. They are Matthew Guinn, Michael Shahan, Jenni Huggard, Jacob Long, and Bryant Pittman.

Please join with the Bible College Tuition Assistance committee in supporting the future of our young people. A specially marked envelope will be available in the Sunday Morning Worship Service bulletin on August 1. If you have questions, please contact Bob King.

If you are a student interested in pursuing a Bible College education, please contact Kyle Rodell for information and a list of Bible colleges approved for the tuition assistance program.

Service Opportunity

Did you know that Oklahoma ranks 4th in the US in the number of hungry families?  Did you know that one in five children in Eastern Oklahoma are in danger of going to bed each night hungry?  Organizations like Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma are helping to combat this hunger crisis in our state.

You may have read in a Tulsa World article (June 20th issue) that the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma recently received a 60 semi-truck shipment of food made possible by a federal grant.  The Food Bank currently needs volunteers to help box the food into 58,000 boxes.  These boxes will provide food to 58,000 hungry families in a 24 county region in Eastern Oklahoma.  If the food is not distributed by September 30, the Food Bank will have to pay for the transportation costs that are now covered by the grant.

This would be a great opportunity for your Journey Group to go and serve this summer.  If you, your family, or a group you are a part of would like to help meet this challenge at the Food Bank, call John Sanders at 585-2800, ext. 145, or e-mail jsanders@cfbeo.org to get more information on when you can volunteer.  Volunteer opportunities are available Monday through Saturday for people 12 years and older.
